ABOUT 1K1M
1K1M is a yearly fundraising initiative by Hospitals for Humanity (HfH) to raise funds for its Paediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery Initiative (PCTSI) program in Nigeria.
1K1M is an ambitious effort to raise funds from one million individuals who will give at least one thousand Naira each (or its equivalent) towards carrying out open heart surgeries for children with congenital heart defects.
THE NEED
HfH has a growing list of over a thousand children (1000) who currently suffer from surgically amenable congenital heart defects which let untreated, not only hampers the quality of these children’s lives but can lead to preventable deaths of these children. Of these one thousand (1000) patients, two hundred (200) of these urgently require surgery.
HfH has a team of medical professionals both fulltime and volunteer who are willing and ready to relocate to Nigeria on a full time basis to help save these children’s lives at standards comparable to any first class institution around the world. Regardless of challenges posed by weak healthcare system in Nigeria, while building capacities of local staff and engender knowledge transfer, HfH is ready for the challenge!
Since 2014, HfH has operated on forty (49) children and performed (1) Cardiac Catherization in Nigeria with a ninety six percent (96%) success rate.
