Every year, approximately 85,000 children suffer from Congenital Heart Defect (CHD), meaning roughly 1 in every 100 babies is born with a congenital heart defect.
CHD accounts for a substantial proportion of infant mortality, with untreated cases often leading to severe complications and premature death.
In many African countries, fewer than 112 pediatric open-heart surgeries are performed annually. In Nigeria alone, approximately 1% of all births result in death due to Congenital Heart Defect.
